ChatonLM’s voice does two things: it reads answers aloud in a natural voice, and it holds a hands-free conversation. You speak, the model answers out loud, then listens again. It all happens on your computer.

Start voice mode
The waveform button, next to Send, or Ctrl+Shift+Space.
Speak
ChatonLM sends your sentence when you pause. Prefer to stay in control? Hold Space while you speak.
Listen, or cut in
The answer is read aloud. To interrupt it, just speak: ChatonLM goes quiet and listens.

In voice mode, the model is instructed to keep its answers short, the way people talk. You can change that instruction.

The conversation is displayed and saved as usual: you’ll find it in your history.
Nothing you say leaves the house.
Speech detection, transcription, echo cancellation and the voice all run on your computer. Only the transcribed text is sent to the Ollama engine, like a message typed on the keyboard; by default, that engine is on your machine too.

Does voice mode work without the internet?
Yes, once the voice and the speech recognition model are downloaded. ChatonLM offers to download them the first time, and tells you their size.
In which languages?
Answers are read aloud in English, French and Spanish, with the voice of their language. An answer in another language is written, not read.
Do I need headphones?
No. Echo cancellation lets you interrupt an answer by speaking, even with speakers. With headphones, it’s cleaner still.
Can I just have answers read aloud?
Yes. Without voice mode, a button under each answer reads it aloud, and a setting reads new answers automatically.
What do I need to get started?
A microphone, the voice for your language and a speech recognition model. When one is missing, ChatonLM offers to download it, then starts.
